It’s a trilogy, and I totally intend on reading the next two books I enjoyed birvs one so much. As the ending of the story reveals, it’s impossible to understand the quest for the Great Root of Power without understanding the Duke of Ch’in and why he must be deposed.

Bridge of Birds has an controling quest, but it is told in three parts, each part forming part of the quest. It’s only about pages, so it makes for a quick read once you get into it.
