I probably come at this from a slightly emotional place because I remember him coming into a bookstore dreammers I worked to pick up our order of his book, Regina’s Song, to take them home so he and his bride could sign them. They examine a miniature model of the Domain, and begin to make plans. A few times OK, but all the time, it becomes intolerable rather quickly.

I thought there could have been some more conflicts between the two armies, considering they were on separate sides of the war.

This series however was terrible. So, in keeping with the formula, we are introduced to many of our major players throughout the course of this book. The church’s soldiers, forced into a supernatural frenzy, rush towards the Wasteland, leaving their camp unguarded and freeing the natives whom they have enslaved.

Veltan shows the outlanders his house, which they are shocked to discover is made from one stone. Eddings again, but when this book came out he remembered and he offered to personalize a signed copy.

The characters have the Eddings touch but the story is too long Yaltar, the Dreamer of Veltan, foresees that the Vlagh would attack there and that there would be much killing on both eddins. She seemed to embody the worst characteristics of Flute, one of Edding’s earlier characters. While there were some injuries and deaths, none of the main characters really seemed to be in any kind of danger.

Go back and read The Mallorean again if you need a fix. Veltan came and warned the outlanders to reach safe ground as Yaltan was having a dream that was about to unleash a behemoth. Longbow dedicating his life to eradicating the object of his anger is somewhat trite, but it develops him for a larger purpose. As a result, much of the action is unfurled through an observer’s lens, instead of being in the thick of things.

I was thrilled to pick up a minty fresh Eddings saga, but by halfway through this first book I felt like I could recite it before I’d even read it. And I recognised both Polgara’s and Flute’s personalities.
