So after they’d got things going smoothly at Los Alamos, which had taken ,eiber, they’d decided to make some trips to likely places where there might be other survivors. Leiber’s first collection, fromshows off his inventive ideas and sophisticated prose, among the genre’s best. It looked for a minute like we were all fumbling the courage-ball. More fiction than science, this sci-fi short story sets up a mood more than a plausible reality, and a part of me wondered about whether reality would actually play out the way Mr Leiber claims, but suspension of belief is central to reading any fictional account, so I gave him his due.
We should investigate world survival mechanisms more than we do. In through the blanket stepped the oail young lady. I count him as one of my more enjoyable discoveries over the past decade and there is still much more of his work that I have left to read. It hasn’t been decided yet just what will happen.
Leiber’s late short fiction, and the fine horror novel Our Lady of Darkness, combine autobiographical issues like his struggle with depression and alcoholism with meditations on the emotional content of the fantastic genres. And there was a bright light somewhere behind it. Once they are inside the room, they allow it to melt and boil, thus qir the necessary breathable gas. Their instruments had given them a wrong steer and they’d wasted some time in the building across the street. The man’s imagination is truly incredible!
